The material falls into the gap between the rollers by their rotating motion. The two rollers force the material between their rotating surface into the smaller gap area, and it crushed by the compressive forces presented by the rotating rollers. Major advantages of roller crusher is that it produces a very fine product size and little dust and noise. Roller crusher is used in minerals crushing where the ores are not too hard and it is also used in small scale production mining, such as gold.

 

Coal is probably the most users of roller crushers. Coal plants use single roller crusher or double roller crusher, as primary crushers, reducing the coal pieces. Usually, these crushers will have teeth on the surface of the rollers.
